Need some help on visiting rights for my son

I am looking for some advice on help on what my rights are. I am separated from my ex and have been for some time now, we have a child together who i see as often as i can, sometimes though this is only once every two weeks. This is not my choice but his mothers, she makes herself unavailable to contact so i am not able to arrange anything. If i go around there in person she threatens to call the police and stuff on me which is very unfair i find because it is the only option she gives me sometimes!. I need to know what my parental visiting rights are exactly because if i know for sure what they are i can look at my own legal proceedings to put something official in place like a visiting order or something similar. I would never of thought i would have to do this but it is the position she has forced me into. I think i will look at getting a solicitor involved next.
